Works For Me Wednesday: Blogging Tips

Several tips have helped me maximize my blogging time:

1. On the days when posts just seem to be oozing out my finger tips, I've learned to just post one, and save the others as drafts. Then on busier days, I usually have a post that's been simmering on the back burner and is ready to serve up with just a bit of tweaking.

2. Likewise, I often email myself post ideas that I haven't had time to fully develop. This works great when my mind wonders at work as it is prone to do!

3. When all else fails, did you know you can email posts directly to your blog? Yep. At least with Blogger, this is easy to do:

  • First, ensure that you have this capability enabled.
  • Go to the Settings tab on your Blogger page, and then click on the Email tab.
  • Under the Mail-to address, insert the name of your blog in the blank, and then check Publish.
  • Remember this email address (it will look like "yourname.yourblogname@blogger.com), and then try sending your blog an email from any email program.
If you copy and paste text from anywhere else into your email, make sure you don't have unnecessary hard returns at the end of each line or your post will be formatted weird. To check your post - go directly to your blog page, hit refresh if necessary and voila! Your post should be there!

Great ideas, Dianne. Isn't it funny how we do sometimes "ooze" with ideas, and other times not so much. . . .

Aren't you a smart cookie! Who knew you could email your site ideas!

Well I wouldn't email your site just "ideas" but you can email it complete posts. Works in progress I email to myself (yes, I'm weird!) so at least I have the idea written down somewhere and email is just quick for me.

Great ideas! Also, Blogger makes a toolbar for Word that allows you to instantly blog any Word document. So if you prefer to work in Word, you can do your drafts there, and then when they're ready to publish, just click a button and they're added to your blog. You can download it here.

Great ideas. I usually set aside a chunk of time on Saturday to write major posts for the next week, then I just write little filler things that are relevant if I need to during the week. Otherwise it's too much like work to try to post every day and such. Our tip is up and we're also hosting the Carnival of the Vanities today - busy day in duck-land!

I did not know that. And I do the same thing you do. I do several posts ahead of time when I have plenty of time and save them as drafts. All you have to do is change the time and date and publish it. But I sure didn't know you could email a post to your blog.

Oh My! I tried it and it works well. I am getting a Blackberry soon and I think I will be making use of my carpooling time (when I am not driving, of Course). And then the comment from Katrina about publishing from Word. Yes I am an IT Geek (I specialize in managing Email Engineers) But I am fast becoming a blog geek.

I am having such fun meeting new people. It's no wonder I seem to lose all track of time when I begin reading all these other great blogs. Thanks so much for visiting me and your comment. I think the key really is balance. I'm going to try to do better! I like you idea. There are times I have great ideas and forget them by the time I sit down to write. Old age I think :-)
